Arab Foreign Minister Continues Consultation With Trump's Envoy On Gaza Strip Reconstruction Plan
JAKARTA - Arab foreign ministers will continue to consult with US President Donald Trump's special envoy on Egypt's plans to rebuild the Gaza Strip, an alternative to Trump's plans to take over Palestinian territory.
Consultation and coordination over the plan will continue with the US special envoy, Steve Witkoff, as the basis for reconstruction efforts in Gaza, according to a joint statement after a meeting of foreign ministers in Doha.
As reported by Reuters on Thursday, March 13, earlier this month, Arab leaders adopted an Egyptian reconstruction plan worth $53 billion for Gaza to avoid eviction of Palestinians from the enclave, which goes against Trump's vision of "Central East Riviera".
Trump's plan reinforces the old Palestinian fears of a permanent expulsion from their homes, and has received widespread international resistance.
Egypt, Jordan, and Gulf Arab countries fear such plans will destabilize the entire region. Egypt's reconstruction plan for Gaza provides an administrative committee consisting of independent and professional Palestinian technocrats tasked with managing Gaza.
The plan is detailed in 112-page documents covering maps of how the land will be redeveloped and dozens of colorful images produced by AI on housing development, parks, and community centers.
Large-scale reconstruction funding will require great support from oil-rich Gulf Arab countries such as the United Arab Emirates and Saudi Arabia.
The White House previously said the plan, which recently received support from France, Germany, Italy and the UK, did not discuss the reality of Gaza.
