Port Transformation, Pelindo Shortens Ship Stopping Time

JAKARTA PT Pelabuhan Indonesia (Persero) or Pelindo through the Subholding of PT Pelindo Multi Terminal (SPMT) continues to transform ports this year.

The move was taken to strengthen operational performance in all terminals managed by the company.

Pelindo Multi Terminal Operations Director, Arif Rusman Yulianto, said the port transformation process refers to six principles. Starting from business processes, human resources (HR), technology, equipment, infrastructure, as well as health, safety, security, and environment (HSSE).

"The port transformation process has been carried out since the end of 2022 and will be continued in a sustainable manner with the aim of increasing port productivity and shortening the ship's stopping time (port stay)," he said in an official statement, Thursday, March 13.

For example, continued Arif, the productivity of loading and unloading dry bulk commodities at Branch Jamrud Nilam Mirah Surabaya increased by 51 percent from the previous 1,499 tons per Ship per Day (T/S/D) to 2,266 T/S/D.

Furthermore, he explained, the increased port productivity was in line with the decline in port stay at Branch Jamrud Nilam Mirah, which currently reaches 50 hours, down 8 hours from the previous 58 hours.

"In addition, standardization and port systemization which are part of the transformation process carried out by Pelindo Multi terminal also has an impact on the growth of loading and unloading currents," he said.

He said, in 2024 there was a flow of loading and unloading of general & bag cargo commodities reaching 30.25 million tons per M3, growing 19.55 percent year on year (yoy). The flow of cargo of dry bulk goods such as coal, iron ore, sugar, soybeans, and others reached 59.08 million tons, up 7.15 percent on an annual basis or yoy.

In line with the flow of goods in the form of vehicles, it increased 21.63 percent compared to the achievement in 2023 to 1.84 million units. Meanwhile, for gas commodities in 2024 it reached 13.97 Metric Million British Thermal Unit (MMBTU), an increase of 5.86 percent on an annual basis or yoy.

In addition, said Arif, the growth in the flow of goods also shows the effectiveness of the centralized and standardized operational management in each port and is supported by technological transformation by implementing PTOS-M (Pelindo Terminal Operating System Multipurpose) so that terminal operations are carried out on a planning and control basis.

Pelindo Multi Terminal is committed to improving the quality of port services to create more efficient logistics chains. We are currently focusing on modernizing terminal facilities, strengthening partnerships, and implementing advanced technologies that will be key to shaping the company's future," said Arif.

Arif also said that Pelindo Multi Teminal opens up opportunities to synergize and collaborate with various parties in modernizing ports as a commitment to increase national logistics competitiveness.

"With this partnership, it will accelerate port transformation and provide significant benefits for the national economy," he explained.

Currently, continued Arif, Pelindo Multi Terminal manages 20 branches per branch spread across Sumatra, Java, Kalimantan, Sulawesi, as well as Bali and Nusa Tenggara, as well as three subsidiaries, namely PT Pelabuhan Tanjung Priok (PTP) which manages 11 branches, PT Indonesia Vehicle Terminal Tbk (IKT/IPCC) which manages 6 terminals, and PT Terminal Curah Utama.
