PSG Masuk Daftar Sejarah Usai Tumbangkan Liverpool Di 16 Besar Liga Champions

JAKARTA - Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) eliminated Liverpool in the last 16 of the Champions League. They won 4-1 on penalties at Anfield on Wednesday, March 12, 2025, early in the morning WIB.

The match had to end on penalties after PSG managed to maintain a 1-0 lead in the second leg until the extra round which made the aggregate 1-1.

Prior to the match at Anfield, PSG were not seeded because Liverpool won 1-0 in the first leg at the Parc des Princes last week.

Turning things around on Merseyside is almost impossible. Moreover, Les Parisiens is overshadowed by historical records of which only three of the 27 teams managed to qualify after losing the first leg at home in the knockout stages of the Champions League.

This means that PSG is the fourth team to make this history. Even so, Luis Enrique, Manager of Les Parisiens, did not want to have excessive euphoria and Javanese.

"Both teams deserve to advance to the next phase. They (Liverpool) played better than us here, but I think my team at Anfield, at a special stadium, showed great personality and character."

"We tried to play as well as possible, but it was difficult because they were very intense. Both teams deserved to qualify," said Luis Enrique.

PSG scored a single goal through Ousmane Dembele in the 12th minute. The score lasted until two extra rounds.

On penalties, four PSG kickers successfully did their job. While in the host camp, after Mohamed Salah managed to kick first, unfortunately Darwin Nunez and Curtis Jones' shot was blocked by Gianluigi Donnarumma.

Next, PSG will meet the winner between Club Brugge and Aston Villa in the quarter-finals. Aston Villa is currently winning 3-1 on aggregate ahead of the match on Thursday, March 13, 2025, early morning WIB.
