DKI Provincial Government Will Build Embankments To Prevent Rob In 3 Kelurahan After Lebaran

DKI Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung said the DKI Provincial Government would build coastal embankments to prevent coastal flooding or tidal flooding in three urban villages in North Jakarta.

"We will do it thoroughly, for that later there will be three embankments made in North (Jakarta), in Muara Karang, Cilincing, and Muara Baru," said Pramono at DKI Jakarta City Hall, Wednesday, March 12.

Pramono said that the construction of embankments needed to be carried out immediately because the coastal areas of Jakarta were often hit by tidal flooding. In the near future, the potential for rob will also occur at the end of this month.

Areas that have the potential to be affected by tidal flooding include Muara Angke Village, Muara Baru Village, Cilincing Village, Marunda Pulo Village, and Jalan RE Martadinata.

"We received information that on the 28-29 there will be a tidal wave. For that, I have ordered again, earlier we had a direct meeting to anticipate from now on," said Pramono.

If tidal flooding hits, Pramono continued, the DKI Provincial Government is also preparing to activate pumps to drain water from residential areas to the sea.

"Pumps must be activated from now on. As soon as the rob happens, the pumping will be done and we have prepared approximately 200 existing pump points," he explained.

In addition, the DKI Provincial Government has also carried out weather modification operations (OMC) to minimize the impact of flooding due to extreme rainfall from March 11 to 20, 2025.

The DKI Jakarta Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) has spent a budget of around Rp. 3 billion to run OMC for those 10 days.

This year, the DKI Provincial Government has carried out two stages of weather modification operations, namely in early February and mid-February 2025. In the third phase this time, weather modifications were carried out with 25 flight sorties.
