Wednesday Morning Fire At Yogyakarta Tugu Station, Three Train Carriages Burnt

YOGYAKARTA - Three reserve train carriages (KA) who were in a stable position or parked in the Yogyakarta Tugu Station assembly caught fire on Wednesday, March 12 morning.

Public Relations Manager of KAI Daop 6 Yogyakarta Feni Novida Saragih said that the fire was reported to have occurred at around 06.44 WIB and was successfully extinguished at 07.30 WIB.

"In this incident there were no victims and did not interfere with train travel. Service to train passengers at Yogyakarta Station continues to run normally," Feni was quoted as saying by ANTARA.

Feni explained that the carriage that caught fire was a passenger train made from stainless steel which was in a stable or parking condition before being prepared for departure.

"So this train has not been prepared in any series, it is still in a parking position," he explained.

Until now, the cause of the fire is still under internal investigation by KAI. "The cause is still under investigation, we are waiting for the process," said Feni.

A number of firefighters and police were seen at the scene to secure the scene. Three carriages of the burning train have been given police lines for further investigation purposes.

Feni ensured that even though the fire broke out on the station line, the operation of the train at Tugu Station was still running normally.

"No train trips were affected. There was a diversion of visitors' access during the extinguishing process, but after the fire was successfully extinguished, the area could be reused," he said.

Regarding the damage caused, Feni has not been able to provide an estimated loss. However, he made sure not all parts of the carriage were burned. "If we look at there are indeed several parts of the train, not intact (burned)," he said.

KAI also ensures that every train that will be dispatched always goes through the maintenance and cleaning process before being used.

Yogyakarta City Fire Brigade Team Commander Agus Firmansyah said that in an effort to extinguish the fire, his party deployed five fire engines.

"A total of 30 personnel were deployed, consisting of 25 personnel from the city of Yogyakarta and five personnel from UGM," said Agus.
