BP3MI Riau Islands Prevents An Illegal CPMI From Departing For Singapore, Suspected Broker Is Also Arrested
JAKARTA - The Riau Islands Indonesian Migrant Worker Protection Service Center (BP3MI) (Kepri) has prevented the departure of prospective illegal Indonesian migrant workers (CPMI) from Indramayu to Singapore.
CPMI named Siti Kholipa (41) wants to go to Singapore using only an In Principle Approval (IPA) document published by the Singapore Ministry of Manpower (MOM). He was intercepted departing at Batam Center Port on March 8, 2025.
"Only using IPA documents issued by MOM Singapore, without a competency certificate and BPJS Ketenagakerjaan will prevent departure by the BP3MI Kepri protection team," wrote the BP3MI Riau Islands report received via text message, Tuesday, March 11.
According to the victim's confession, his plan to illegally depart for Singapore was facilitated by a suspected broker named Juliana Hanafi (59). The process, after arriving at Hang Nadim Airport, the victim was forwarded to the Port of Harbor Bay Batam.
The non-procedural CPMI arrived in Batam on March 7, 2025, which according to CPMI's confession, was picked up by the suspect Juliana Hanafi at Hang Nadim Airport, (planned) to leave immediately through Harbor Bay Harbor, "continued the report.
On Saturday, March 8, the victim, who was originally placed as a household assistant, was brought back by the suspected broker to the Port of Harbor Bay Batam to be dispatched to Singapore. However, this effort was successfully prevented by the BP3MI Riau Islands team.
"On March 8, 2025, Indonesian migrant workers tried to leave again through the Batam Center Port but were secured by helpdesk officers," wrote the BP3MI Riau Islands report.
Furthermore, BP3MI Kepri officers handed over victims of CPMI and suspected brokers to the Batam Center Port Area Police. Both were secured for questioning to investigate the case and the criminal process.
Previously, the Minister of Protection for Indonesian Migrant Workers (P2MI) Abdul Kadir Karding reminded people who want to work abroad to take legal channels.
Indonesian migrant workers who depart illegally or non-procedurally, he said, are vulnerable to international crimes, such as fraud to torture.
