Argentina Extends Lockdown Period To Save Lives Of Its Citizens
JAKARTA - Argentine President Alberto Fernandes has decided to extend the time for the Lockdown to take effect in order to curb the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic until 27 April. Lockdown's extension will focus on major cities in Argentina.
As reported by Reuters, the lockdown period for Argentina actually ends on March 31. Even so, the extension of the quarantine period in Argentina is not without strong pressure from the business sector. Moreover, this option has made tax revenues decrease and subsidy spending from the Argentine government soaring higher.
“You can restore the economy but you can't restore a life after it's gone. Right now my biggest problem is not public expenditure, it is the health of the Argentine people, "said Argentine President Alberto Fernandez.
Extension of the lockdown period cannot be said to be easy for Argentina. The vast agricultural area makes Argentina the largest exporter of food in the world.
So far Argentina has recorded 1,975 positive cases of COVID-19. As well as 82 cases died because of the corona virus.
"We have succeeded in flattening the curve of new infections. Without Lockdown, we can have 45,000 cases now. The lockdown has not been in vain," said Argentine President Alberto Fernandez.
According to Fernandes, the extension of the lockdown period will be focused on big cities with high populations. Where most Argentines live in metropolitan areas such as Buenos Aires, Mendoza and Cordoba. "The situation will remain the same in all major cities."
Not only Argentina, a number of other countries have also announced an extension of the Lockdown period. The Italian Prime Minister (PM), Giuseppe Conte, decided to extend the Lockdown to limit the spread of the Corona virus (COVID-19) until 3 May.
Likewise, Malaysia announced that it would extend its lockdown until 28 April. This enforcement follows the announcement of the Malaysian Ministry of Health regarding 118 new cases in a day, bringing the total Corona virus cases in this country to 4,346 cases.
Meanwhile, Turkish authorities have limited the spread of the coronavirus by imposing a 48-hour lockdown in the capital Ankara and Istanbul. Even though it was only for two days, the government tightened the ban on citizens' activities outside the home.
