Syria Claims Complete Military Operations Tumpas Militant Assad After Clashes That Killed 1000 People

JAKARTA - The Syrian Ministry of Defense announced the completion of military operations to combat the remains of former ousted President Bashar al-Assad loyalists.

Clashes between Assad loyalists and the country's new Islamist rulers killed more than 1,000 people, most civilians according to war monitoring groups.

The Syrian leader previously insisted on hunting down the perpetrators of bloody clashes involving ousted Presidential loyalists Bashar al-Assad against the new rulers of Islamists in the country.

Syrian President Ahmed Sharaa accused Assad loyalists and unnamed foreign powers of trying to spark riots.

"Today, while we are at this critical moment, we find ourselves facing new dangers - attempts by the remnants of the previous regime and their foreign supporters to spark new conflict and drag our country into civil war, which aims to divide and destroy its unity and stability," he said on Sunday, March 9.

The supreme commander of the Syrian Kurdish armed group, whose troops were involved in separate battles with Turkey, has previously blamed the Turkish-backed Islamic factions for some of the most troubling violence.

At the United Nations in New York, diplomats say the United States and Russia have asked the Security Council to meet behind closed doors on Monday over rising violence in Syria.

The Office of the President Meanwhile Sharaa said it was forming an independent committee to investigate clashes and killings by both sides.

Syrians have spread terrible videos about executions by fighters. Reuters could not immediately verify the videos.

"We will hold accountable, with full firmness, anyone involved in the bloodshed of civilians, molest civilians, exceed the authority of the state, or exploit power for personal gain. No one will be above the law," Sharaa stressed.
