Donald Trump Calls Mars An Interesting Mission, But Not His Priority

JAKARTA US President Donald Trump had expressed support for a human-delivery mission to the Moon. This statement was made at the joint session of Congress on March 4 and was inaugurated on January 20, 2025.

Trump's response to this ambitious idea is still the same. According to him, the space industry should be able to go further to learn more in space. In addition, Trump is obsessed with being at the forefront of the industry.

"We will conquer the boundaries of broad science, and we will lead humanity into space and stake America's flag on the planet Mars and even far beyond that," Trump said in front of Congress, quoted by Spacenews.

However, the number one person in the US told Fox News that going to Mars was not part of his priority. Trump just felt that this idea would be extraordinary, but there are still more important things to achieve right now.

"There are many who are interested in going to Mars," Trump said. "Is that number one on my wish list? No. Actually no. However, it is something that, you know, would be an extraordinary achievement."

Trump also admitted that he was surprised by the public's enthusiasm for the mission to reach the surface of Mars. According to him, the lively applause when he discussed Mars in a Congressional speech showed that there was a great interest in the idea.

In fact, during his speech to Congress, Trump did not discuss any details regarding Mars' mission, ranging from its launch target to budget details. Trump doesn't seem to have thought about these things because he is still focused on other missions.

The target of landing humans on the Moon has not yet been running. NASA is still focused on developing technology and supporting aircraft while training its astronauts. Before reaching the surface of Mars which has an extreme environment, the US must land again on the Moon.
