Cyber Expert Finds More Than Half A Million Financial Phishing Attacks In Southeast Asia

JAKARTA - Throughout 2024, Kaspersky's business security solutions have succeeded in blocking 534,759 financial phishing attacks aimed at businesses across Southeast Asia, from small companies to large companies.

The global cybersecurity company said that financial phishing specifically targets banking, payment systems and online retailers, by creating fake webs to emulate legal payment platforms, in order to deceive victims.

General Manager for Southeast Asia in Kaspersky, Yeo Siang Tiong revealed, the large number of financial phishing in Southeast Asia is due to the digital economy because the region is growing rapidly.

"It's clear that cybercriminals are exploiting rapid digital adoption in the region, and the Company must remain vigilant," added Yeo.

The highest number of financial phishing efforts targeting businesses in the Asian region of Telgaara was detected in Thailand (247,560 attacks), followed by Indonesia (85,908 attacks), and Malaysia (64,779 attacks).

"Now, more than ever, it's very important for businesses here to have the right tools and access to real-time threat intelligence they need to stay ahead of this threat," Yeo concluded.
