JAKARTA - Karla Sof! Gasc! opened his voice about the struggle to face criticism after his racist tweets emerged to the public. This controversy arose in the midst of his name being highlighted after starring in the film Emilia Perez, who became the most nominee at the Oscars.

At the end of January, several Gascon tweets were revealed and contained insults to Muslims, the murder of George Floyd, racism and others.

Gascon, who at that time apologized, explained that his tweet was taken not in a context and denied that he was racist. He was also one of the Best Actress nominations at the 2025 Oscars and was revealed to have made hate tweets to the event several years ago.

In a personal statement to The Hollywood Reporter, Karla Sofia Gascon admitted that she regretted the tweet and felt a great impact on her.

"Recently, I have been a target and hate speech, as I have also said bad things throughout my life that have harmed others," said Karla Sofia Gascon.

"Without reason and without intending to justify my actions in the past, I apologize to all those who feel aggrieved. I apologize and respect goodness and understanding. I promise I will continue to listen and learn so as not to make the same mistakes in the future," he said.

Emilia Perez became the most nominee at the Oscars this year, but they only won two awards, namely Best Supporting Actress and Best Original Song.

In the event, Conan O'Brien as the host made fun of Gascon who attended by saying, Anora said F*** 479 times, that's three times more than Karla Sofia Gascon's publicization.
