Volkswagen Recalls More Than 177,000 Atlas And Atlas Cross Sport Units In The US, What Happened?

JAKARTA - Volkswagen (VW) announced a recall involving up to 177,493 SUV crossover units sold on the United States (US) market.

Reuters reported, quoted Monday, March 10, that the start of the recall program was due to concerns regarding the loose engine cover.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), engine covers have the potential not to be installed properly after the service program vehicle so that they can be released and touch the surface of the hot engine. This can increase unwanted events, such as fires.

This recall involved a number of models such as Atlas and Atlas Cross Sport, which are models from 2024 to 2025.

To solve the problem, NHTSA said the dealer would remove the engine cover for free so that the risk of the fire could be minimized.

This is not the first time the Atlas and Atlas Cross Sport models have been hit by a recall. Earlier in the middle of last year, these two models had to be withdrawn from the circulation of 271,000 units in the US and 36,000 units in Canada.

It is reported that the passenger detection system (PODS) in this vehicle has the potential to experience errors in cables that increase the risk of injury or death when an accident occurs on the highway.

The German manufacturer has also received 1,730 guarantee claims for PODS spare parts and told vehicle owners to be careful in driving their cars.

The recall affects the two models, Atlas in the 2021-2024 models and Atlas Cross Sport 2020-2024.

A few months earlier, VW encountered problems in these two models with similar problems involving as many as 143,000 units which are a combination of the 2018-2021 Atlas and 2020 Atlas Cross Sport models.
