Toyota Considers Launching A Special Sports Car For Racing Tracks In Australia
JAKARTA - Japanese automotive manufacturer Toyota always has various ways to satisfy customers and automotive enthusiasts around the world. The latest news is that the world's largest automaker plans to present a special edition model for the race track.
They confirmed that they will launch one of the models in the Gazoo Racing (GR) lineup, which specializes in being tested on the race track to take advantage of brand image improvements to the Supercars event, which is a top competition in Australia next year with a V8-engined GR Supra.
Toyota Australia's Vice President Sales and Marketing Sean Hanley said his party opened up opportunities to present cars intended for racing tracks but with limited numbers.
"Of course there is an opportunity around the GR brand to do other things related to the competition. We will look at the brand proposition more holistically," Hanley said as quoted by Drive, Saturday, March 8.
Hanley said that the car was not Supra as included in the Supercars event, but other models that would use the GR emblem which had extraordinary performance.
"In other words, we will probably make some special editions of the race track and maybe not always Supra, maybe also other models with the GR brand," added Hanley.

He also said it opened up the possibility that the car would be assembled locally and a fully high-performance model, not GR Sport which focuses on visual modifications.
Our current priority is to be on that path, prepare ourselves, and complete Supercars programs and development, we can see what we can do next from a brand perspective," Hanley explained.
Toyota has introduced GR Supra for the Supercars racing competition for the 2026 season and will partner with Walkinshaw Andretti United as a homologation team. The manufacturer implanted a 2UR-GSE 5.0 liter V8 engine in the model which was previously used as the heartpiece of the Lexus RC F GT3.
