Australian PM Decides Election To Be Postponed From April, Government Focuses On Facing Tropical Storm Alfred

JAKARTA - Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese decided not to hold a national general election in April, as previously expected.

His government is now focusing on storms approaching the state of Queensland.

The national general election must be held in mid-May, and was previously expected to be held in April so that the government can avoid submitting national budget forecasts that show a deficit.

"Our goal is to take full office," Albanese said in a television interview with the Australian Broadcasting Corporation.

Preparations have been made to convey the budget on March 25.

Currently Australia ordered thousands of people in its eastern region to flee before Tropical Cyclone Alfred hit land on Saturday.

The storm brought heavy rains, large waves, and strong winds that cut off electricity, flooded the coast, and closed the airport.

"I have no intention of doing anything that distracts us from what we need to do, and all we need to do is take care of each other in this difficult time," continued Albanese.
