Budget Efficiency Observer, Minister Of Home Affairs: We'll See The Quality Of The Governor

JAKARTA - Minister of Home Affairs (Mendagri) Tito Karnavian said monitoring of budget efficiency in the regions was the first test for governors and their representatives at the provincial level to ensure that budget governance was right in the success of government programs in each region.

This is because the Minister of Home Affairs has asked leaders at the provincial level as an extension from the Central Government to participate in supervising and ensuring that budget efficiency in the regions is in line with Presidential Instruction number 1 of 2025 regarding budget efficiency.

"I ask all governors who are also representatives of the Central Government in the regions, they are also required to pay attention to the efficiency carried out by their regions. We will see the quality of the governor. The test is for the governor, the first test is," Tito said at the Jakarta Presidential Palace Complex, Friday.

According to Tito, monitoring the efficiency of this budget will be a place to prove how the governor dares to lead his province and direct government at the city and district levels so that he can effectively manage his budget for the welfare of the community.

Monitoring from the Governor at the provincial level will complement other monitoring prepared by the Ministry of Home Affairs through a special team.

The team that will be made by the Minister of Home Affairs is prepared to work after the re-voting (PSU) in 24 regions has been completed.

Regarding the mandate to carry out efficiency in the regions, Tito said that he had given direction through retret activities in Magelang, Central Java directly to regional heads.

He said the circular he issued could be the basis for all regional heads to reallocate the budget from what had been determined by their predecessors in order to adjust to the efficiency conditions in 2025.

Efficiency must be carried out by regional heads specifically for ceremonial activities to reduce official travel by up to 50 percent.

"The reallocation of the purpose of efficiency and efficiency results is used for the benefit that directly affects the people. Education, health, extreme poverty infrastructure, to stunting," said Tito.
