The 500,000 Barrel Capacity Refinery Will Be Built On Batam Pupping Island
JAKARTA - The Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) will build a new oil refinery with a capacity of 500,000 barrels per day on Pemping Island, Batam, Riau Islands.
"This is a new project. That is a plan in Pemping Near Batam," said Deputy Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources, Yuliot Tanjung, quoted on Friday, March 7.
Yuliot explained that the Pemping Island was chosen as the location for the refinery construction because supporting infrastructure had been built, one of which was gas infrastructure.
Pemping Island is also known to be close to Nipah Island, which will later become the location for the construction of oil storage or the location for storing oil supplies.
"That's a nearby location. So this is part of an ecosystem that is one unit," continued Yuliot.
Previously, the Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources, Bahlil Lahadalia, designed the construction of an oil refinery with a capacity of 500 thousand barrels per day, as a breakthrough to ensure a more stable and sustainable energy supply in the future.

"We will also build a refinery (oil refinery) whose capacity, God willing, is approximately 500 thousand barrels. This oil refinery will be designed with a capacity of 500 thousand barrels per day and capable of processing crude from domestic and imported oil. This refinery will produce various petroleum products, including fuel, reaching 531,500 barrels per day, thereby strengthening national energy supply.
