Sarong War Kills Teenager In Pekanbaru, 4 Perpetrators Arrested By Police

PEKANBARU - A teenager named Reyhan Apprilian (15) died after holding a sarong war in Pekanbaru, Riau. The incident occurred on Monday at around 22.30 WIB on Jalan Berdikari, Rumbai District, Pekanbaru City.

Reyhan and his group were involved in a sarong war with another group who was also the same age as him. But unfortunately, Reyhan, who was left behind by his friends, was beaten by the perpetrators.

The 15-year-old finally died after receiving treatment at the hospital due to a severe bleeding in the head and nose.

The Pekanbaru Police Criminal Investigation Unit (Satreskrim) who received a report from the victim's family immediately moved quickly and arrested four perpetrators who turned out to be minors.

"We have secured four perpetrators with the initials BA (14), HH (14), MRA (13), and IP (14). Currently, we have carried out an in-depth examination by investigators," said Head of Criminal Investigation Unit of Pekanbaru Police, Kompol Berry Juana Putra, Thursday, March 6.

Berry told, initially the victim Reyhan was involved in a sarong throwing game with his group with another group. The game had moved locations several times until it was finally carried out in front of one of the elementary schools.

"Initially throwing gloves was carried out one by one but the regulation changed the victim's opponent (the perpetrator) to six against six. In the duel the group of victims lost, the victim's friends fled until the victim himself. Finally, the victim became the target of the perpetrators. RA victims themselves fought back, because the victims were not balanced, they were helpless and fell," explained Bery.

Furthermore, the victim who had been lying helpless was immediately rushed to Awal Bross Hospital, Ahmad Yani Street, Pekanbaru. At around 03.00 WIB the victim's life could not be saved until he was declared dead due to a severe bleeding on the head and nose.

Not accepting that his son died because of the incident, the victim's family immediately made a report to the Rumbai Police and hoped that the case would be immediately revealed.

It didn't take long, after examining witnesses, on Tuesday (4/3/2025), the Rumbai Police received information from the public about the whereabouts of the alleged perpetrators of violence in the sarong war.

Finally, the perpetrator was secured by the Jatanras Police Opsnal Team Pekanbaru together with the Rumbai Police Criminal Investigation Unit.

The four perpetrators of the sarong war who are still minors are charged with Article 80 paragraph (3) of Law Number 35 of 2014 concerning amendments to Law No. 23 of 2002 concerning Child Protection in conjunction with Law Number 11 of 2012 concerning the Juvenile Justice System.
