YOGYAKARTA - In everyday life, we are often faced with situations where we need to take advantage of other people's belongings which in Islam are called ariyah. So what is ariyah? Is it that simple?

Whether it's borrowing books from friends, using neighboring tools, or even borrowing vehicles for urgent purposes. In the Islamic context, ariyah is a form of help recommended in religion.

This article will thoroughly explore the areas, ranging from understanding, harmony, requirements, to the implications of the law in everyday life.

Reporting from the page of the Hajj Financial Management Agency, "Ariyah" refers to the practice of granting rights to objects to other parties voluntarily, without any transfer of ownership.

The concept of ariyah that reflects the values of help-helping and goodness in Islam, has diverse interpretations among the juxtaposed mazhabs. The following is the understanding of ariyah according to the views of the four main schools:

Mazhab emphasized the aspect of providing free benefits. Ariyah is understood as handing over the benefits of an object without expecting material compensation from the recipient. This shows the essence of ariyah as a pure virtue.

Mazhab Syafi'i gave a more detailed definition, focusing on the sustainability aspect of the object. Ariyah is defined as granting permission to use an object, provided that the object remains in its original condition and can be returned to its owner.

In the view of Mazhab Hambali, ariyah is associated with the granting of permits for the use of assets. Mazhab emphasized that the owner provides benefits to other parties without expecting material benefits, which show the voluntary nature of ariyah practice.

Mazhab Maliki views ariyah as a manifestation of help-help, where the benefits of an object are given without any compensation demands. This view is in line with Ibnu Katsir's interpretation, which categorizes ariyah as part of a voluntary good deeds.

This type of ariyah involves determining the requirements and binding provisions, both in terms of the duration of use and the purpose of utilizing goods.

With this restriction, the owner of the goods feels more protected because the use of goods is as expected, and the goods are expected to return to their original condition.

Example:

Ariyah muthlaqah occurs when the owner of the goods gives the license to use without setting certain restrictions or requirements. Then the borrower has the flexibility to use the goods according to the owner's intention.

Although there are no special requirements, the recipient of the loan remains responsible for maintaining and returning the goods in good condition.
