Paul McCartney Supports Joe Cocker For Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame

JAKARTA - Paul McCartney gave his support to the late Joe Cocker, who became one of 14 names announced as nominees for the 2025 Rock & Roll Hall of Fame.

The Beatles personnel felt it was time for Cocker to be sworn in by Rock Hall. Therefore, he sent a letter to Rock Hall with an international voting panel consisting of more than a thousand artists, historians, and professionals in the music industry.

"Joe is a great man and a great singer. His unique style has resulted in some fantastic performances," McCartney said in his letter, citing Billboard, Thursday, March 6.

"He sang one of our songs, 'With a Little Help From My Friends', through a very imaginative version produced by Denny Cordell," he continued.

McCartney believes that the entire panelist can see the huge contribution Joe has made to the history of rock and roll music.

"While he may never lobby to enter the Hall of Fame, I know he would be very happy and grateful to find himself in a proper place among those who are so famous," McCartney said.

At the end of his letter, the 82-year-old musician also put his signature on.

For information, McCartney was twice inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, namely as a member of The Beatles in 1988 and as a soloist in 1999.

Meanwhile, Joe Cocker for the first time was nominated for Rock Hall this year. With a long history as a singer since the early 1960s, the singer of You Are So Beautiful passed away on December 22, 2014.

Apart from Cocker, other names nominated for Rock Hall this year are Bad Company, The Black Crowes, Mariah Carey, tipby Checker, Billy Idol, Joy Division/New Order, Cyndi Lauper, Man Juli, Oasis, Outkast, Phish, Soundgarden, and The White Stripes.
