The naturalization of Joey Pelupessy, Dean James, and Emil Audero is planned to be discussed at the DPR RI Plenary Meeting. Originally, the decision-making of the naturalization application would be taken by the DPR RI through the Plenary Meeting forum for Session II 2024-2025.
The agenda will be discussed in the Plenary Room, Parliament Complex, Senayan, Central Jakarta on Thursday, March 6, 2025. Based on the invitation letter for the meeting Number B/3579/PW.11.01.3.2025, the meeting will start at 10.30 WIB.
"The event on the approval of the application and consideration of the granting of citizenship of the Republic of Indonesia, was followed by decision making," reads the agenda of the meeting.
Before being discussed on the agenda of the DPR RI Plenary Meeting, the naturalization of the three candidates for the Indonesian national team has been approved by Commission X of the DPR RI. "Commission X of the Indonesian House of Representatives has decided to approve the recommendation for granting Indonesian citizenship on behalf of Brother Joey Mathijs Pelupessy, Emil Audero Mulyadi, and Dean James," said Deputy Chairman of Commission X DPR RI, Lalu Hadrian Irfani, while chairing the meeting.
This naturalization recommendation against Joey, Dean, and Emil was carried out because the Indonesian national team needed players with a long experience.
Emil Audero currently plays for Serie B club Palermo and has a track record for Serie A clubs, such as Inter Milan, Juventus, and Como.
While Joey Pelupessy also has qualified experience. The 31-year-old midfielder has defended various clubs in Europe, such as FC Twenty (Netherlands), Sheffield Wednesday (England), FC Groningen (Netherlands), and now Lommel SK (Belgium).
Finally, Dean James is a mainstay player for the Eredivisie club, Go Ahead Eagles. The 24-year-old left-back is an Ajax academy dropout.
The three naturalized candidates were rushed to immediately defend the Indonesian national team on the closest agenda, namely the 2026 World Cup Qualification which will resume at the end of this month. In addition, additional players are projected to be able to compete in the 2027 Asian Cup.
