Ciliwung Sodetan Not Enough To Prevent Floods, DKI Provincial Government Asked To Add Water Disposal Tunnels To The Sea
Therefore, Khoirudin asked the DKI Provincial Government to rebuild a tunnel that can pump water discharge in the river so that it can quickly be channeled into the sea.
"I hope that in the future there will be flood control channels, such as in several cities in the world. In Kuala Lumpur, for example, there are tunnels, tunnels, water on the surface is pumped down and then thrown into the sea," Khoirudin told reporters, Thursday, March 6.
With the pumping of water pushed into the sea through the tunnel, Khoirudin said it could help more water discharge that was too much on the surface. Thus, the impact of flooding in residential areas can be more controlled.
In addition, Khoirudin also encouraged the DKI Provincial Government to continue to dredge mud in rivers, lakes, reservoirs, ponds, and reservoirs throughout the year. This dredging, according to him, is not enough just to do it during the rainy season.
"Indeed, there is silting of rivers, water flow. The mud is increasing, which makes the water discharge reduce its reservoir. I advise the government to immediately dredge all waterways and rivers," explained Khoirudin.
"Still next year during the rainy season, we have to do dredging again, because the sediment flows together with the flow of water. So, we continue to carry out flood work," he added.
Floods in residential areas near the river have caused residents of Kampung Melayu, Jatinegara, East Jakarta to question the function of Sodetan Ciliwung. In fact, the drain is claimed to be a solution to channel floods from the Ciliwung River to the East Flood Canal (BKT).
"Puncak banjir hari ini cukup tinggi, mencapai dua meter. Saya bingung, sodetan di Otista ini fungsinya apa? Katanya sudah jadi, tapi kok masih banjir?" ujar Wahyu (45), warga RT 12/RW 04, Kebon Pala II.

"This drain is made to drain water to BKT. If it is functioning, why is it still flooding here? In fact, those whose houses are normalized will be more affected," he added.
