JAKARTA - The jewelry industry has a significant role in national economic growth.

Director General of Small, Medium and Multifarious Industries (IKMA) of the Ministry of Industry (Kemenperin) Reni Yanita revealed, with its contribution to employment, increasing exports as well as developing local culture and wisdom, the jewelry industry has great potential to compete in the global market.

The Ministry of Industry noted that the export value of Indonesian jewelry and valuables in December 2024 reached 435 million US dollars, an increase of 17.9 percent compared to November 2024.

Meanwhile, cumulatively, the export value of jewelry and valuables throughout 2024 reached 5.5 billion US dollars.

"We have high optimism for increasing exports of the jewelry industry in 2025, with the hope that global economic conditions can improve," said Reni in a written statement, Wednesday, March 5.

Along with changes in lifestyle, technology, and global market trends, the jewelry industry is currently undergoing a transformation. Jewelry is now not just an accessory, but also reflects cultural heritage, sustainability and modernity.

"Creastries are no longer only used in certain celebratory events, but have also become part of their daily lifestyle. Therefore, jewelry designs continue to develop, following market demands that lead to more minimal, functional and elegant designs," said Reni.

Currently, the Ministry of Industry continues to strive to improve the performance of the jewelry industry as a sector that has high added value and competitiveness.

The Ministry of Industry together with stakeholders also encourages industry players to get a platform and access to promote superior products while expanding business networks.

One of the strategic efforts made by the Ministry of Industry is to support the implementation of an international standard jewelry trade show, namely the Jakarta International Jewellery Fair (JIJF) 2025.

The exhibition, which was held by the Indonesian Gold and Permata Entrepreneurs Association (APEPI), was held on 27 February-2 March 2025 at Assembly Hall, Jakarta International Convention Center (JICC).

"This exhibition is an opportunity and a forum for industry players to introduce the latest jewelry products, establish business cooperation and exchange information related to trends and innovations in the jewelry industry," he said.
