Me At The Zoo: YouTube's First Video Upload In History Today, April 23, 2005

JAKARTA - On April 23, 2005, the first YouTube video was uploaded. YouTube co-founder Jawed Karim uploaded an 18 second video entitled Me at the zoo. The video has been viewed more than 100 million times.

And until now, this video is the only video on Karim's channel. After clicking the play button, the screen was filled with young Karim's face, disheveled hair.

Karim appeared in the center of the screen. "Very well," began Kareem. "So here we are, in front of the elephant."

"The cool thing about these animals is that they have very, very, very long proboscis," he continued. "And that, that's cool."

Unlike many YouTubers today. Karim's videos do not include what people usually say, such as "like, comment, and subscribe, huh!"

Karim ends the video by simply saying: And that's all I can say.

Sold 1.65 billion to Google

Quoting CNN, a year after the upload of Me at the Zoo, Karim and other YouTube co-founders sold the platform to Google. The platform is valued at 1.65 billion United States (US) dollars.

Now the platform has more than 2 billion users who log in every month. However, this figure is not as much as 2.74 billion monthly active Facebook users.

But keep in mind that watching YouTube content doesn't have to create an account. According to Hootsuite's 2020 report, 16.4 YouTube site traffic came from the United States (US).

But according to Alexa's estimates, while the US is the largest source of visitors to YouTube, it only represents 16.4 percent of the traffic. Next is 9.2 percent of YouTube viewers in India and 4.8 percent in Japan.

YouTube is now also the second most visited website in the world. Right after its parent company, Google.

As a social platform, YouTube is one of the most widely used. Number two in the world after Facebook.

The report also describes the world's population playing videos on YouTube one billion hours per day. An incredible amount of content is consumed all over the world. The large number of video viewers is also an opportunity for content creators to make money through YouTube.

Rich from YouTube

Nine-year-old Ryan Kaji was Forbes' highest earning YouTube star in 2020. At a very young age, he made an estimated USD 29.5 million and USD 12.2 billion between June 2019 and June 2020.

Its YouTube channel has over 41.7 million subscribers. Kaji has made millions of money reviewing toys.

And this isn't the first time he's topped the list. In 2019 Forbes also declared Kaji as the richest YouTuber in the world. Her toys occupy major shelves and she has also starred in shows on Nickelodeon and Roku.
