China Will Build Sophisticated Stations In The Deepest Sea
JAKARTA When several countries focus on the construction of space stations, China wants to build underwater stations. This station will use a variety of advanced technologies and systems.
Based on a South China Morning Post report, the Chinese government has shared the first details regarding this major project. The country will build an underwater research facility with a depth of 6,000 feet or 1,828 meters below the South China Sea surface.
This research station will be built until 2030. Hopefully, this important facility can accommodate six scientists for several weeks to a month. The main focus of this underwater facility is ecosystem studies on cold seep in the region.
Cold seep or cold seepage is a bioma on the seabed full of life. This environment is important to study because it is a place for a hydrocarbon-rich liquid. Usually, this liquid seeps from the seabed as methane or hydrogen sulfide.
A number of researchers from the South China Sea Oceanology Institute have revealed some of the technologies the deep-sea station will use. The facility as well as the laboratory will use the most advanced life support system.
This system is needed so scientists can operate in a very deep place for up to a month. That way, scientists can observe methane levels, ecological changes, tectonic activity, and build a four-dimensional monitoring system.

In fact, China is not the only country planning to build a station under the sea. The US had expressed a similar idea two years ago and called it an 'undersea station off the coast of Caribbean Island Curacao.
This station will be used as a habitat for sea with the same function as development projects in China. However, it is not only scientists who can enter underwater stations in the US, but also innovators and the public sector.
Residents from other countries who want to study the underwater environment for a long time can also enter the station. If China manages to build an underwater station first, they will be the first and beat the US in terms of leading research.
