BPOM Ensures MBG During Ramadan Is Safe To Bring Home And Consume

Head of the Food and Drug Supervisory Agency (BPOM) Taruna Ikrar said his party ensured that the menu served in Free Nutrition Food (MBG) during Ramadan was safe to take home and consume.

"Of course if there is food, because now it is Ramadan, he gets a share to go to school and then he takes it home, of course it is under consideration and calculation," said Taruna when met in Jakarta, Antara, Tuesday, March 4.

His party made assistance efforts for Indonesian Development Mobilization Scholars (SPPI) and the Nutrition Fulfillment Service Unit (SPPG) in order to provide services in accordance with food safety procedures.

Each food ingredient, such as meat, rice, vegetables, has a degenerate period, and certain reactions when mixed with other foodstuffs due to the microorganisms process.

"So for example, if he brings it home, of course the vegetables are not mixed with rice, not mixed with this, each separates it maybe through a special container. So that way, there is no problem," he said again.

On that occasion, the cadets highlighted the importance of supporting Free Nutrition Food in an effort to meet the nutrition of Indonesian children.

As many as 80 percent of Indonesian children have giss problems, with 21.6 percent stunting, 40 percent experience micronutrition deficiency, and about 20 percent experience excess nutrition.

MBG, he said, is a long-term investment to nourish children and prevent them from degenerative diseases, metabolic diseases, and other non-infectionary diseases. With MBG, he added, the way to eat children and nutritional intake is more controlled.

He added that MBG's success requires collaboration from various parties, including the community. Therefore, he proposed working together, including by inviting the food industry to work together.

"And I think if everyone is involved, we work together, then this free nutritious eating program is not only a 1-2 year program or a minimum of 5 years, but it can be sustainable forever," he said.
