Jakarta Is Still In Bad Flood Even Though There Are Ciliwung Sodetan, Rano Karno: We Think Positively
Rano emphasized that actually the flood control system such as Sodetan Ciliwung, which was inaugurated since 2023, has played a significant role in reducing the impact of flooding due to the overflow of the Ciliwung River.
"(Ciliwung Sodetan) is very helpful. Imagine if there wasn't one. Come on, we'll just think about the positive," said Rano while reviewing the flood conditions in the Cilandak area, South Jakarta, Tuesday, March 4.
Rano admitted that the Jakarta regional revenue and expenditure budget (APBD) was the largest in Indonesia compared to other regions. However, Jakarta still has limitations in accelerating flood prevention programs.
"Jakarta's APBD is much bigger than the others. But it still has limitations. Imagine, the population of Jakarta in the past may be 6 million, now it's almost 11 million. Now this is what we have to accelerate, accelerate. Acceleration must be victims first," explained Rano.
Therefore, every time he encounters people affected by flooding since a few days ago, Rano said that he continues to invite residents who live along the river to be relocated to flats. Thus, flood control projects such as river normalization can be completed more quickly.
One of the residences offered by Rano is a flat in the Jagakarsa area, South Jakarta. This flat will be intended for residents affected by the relocation on riverbanks.
"Saya selalu mensosialisasikan, kesempatan ini, ayo kita pindah ke rusun. Kita baru kelar (membangun) rusun di Jagakarsa, itu ada tiga tower. Kalau dihitung mungkin 800 kamar. Kualitasnya sama dengan Singapura. Kalau mau pindah, yuk," jelas Rano.
