Deputy Governor Rano Karno Invites Residents In Flood-Prone Areas To Move To Flats

Deputy Governor of Jakarta Rano Karno invites Jakarta residents, especially residents who live in flood-prone so they can live in flats owned by the Jakarta Provincial Government, so that they can live in decent and safe housing.

"I always socialize on this occasion. Let's move to flats (rusun)," said Rano after visiting flood-affected areas on Jalan Cambodia, Lebak Bulus, Cilandak, South Jakarta, Tuesday, March 4.

Rano said the DKI Provincial Government had completed the construction of flats in Jagakarsa, South Jakarta. The flat with three towers (menara), it has approximately a total of almost 800 rooms.

According to the man who is familiarly called Bang Doel, on average the flats provided by the Jakarta Provincial Government have two rooms, then they are equipped with various facilities such as clean water and sports facilities.

However, he continued, so that residents want to move to the flats, it takes time because they are not used to living in flats.

"Indeed, we need time. The people of Jakarta are not used to living in flats. But there is no other way. Jakarta will not be completed within five years. It must be sustainable," he said.

Although, residents still want to stay in the same location as their current residence, the DKI Provincial Government can help build flats not far from that location.

However, Bang Doel reminded about the unpredictable character of flooding in Jakarta. Flats, he said, may be safe for residents who live on the top floor, while this is not the case for those who live downstairs.

Therefore, in addition to making efforts for residents in flood-prone locations to be willing to be relocated to a simple rented flat (rusunawa) owned by the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government, river normalization is also still being carried out.

"The flats may be safe for those above. Therefore, we will continue the central program whose name is normalization. In fact, the name Giant Sea Wall is included in the national structure program. Apart from the center, the DKI Provincial Government is also obliged to do so," he said.
