Bogor Peak Flood Damaged 4 Bridges, Ministry Of Public Works Handling Post-flood

Deputy Minister of Public Works (Wamen PU) Diana Kusumastuti revealed that post-flood handling steps from the Ciliwung River in the Cisarua area, Bogor must be carried out immediately.

According to Diana, post-flood handling steps in the Cisarua area must be carried out immediately by coordinating across sectors with the West Java Provincial Government and the Bogor Regency Government, including efforts to relocate residents living in river bodies.

"There are six broken bridges. I also urge you to build bridges that cross water or river flows, you must first receive technical recommendations from the Directorate General of Water Resources of the Ministry of Public Works. I see that these rivers are blocked by bridge construction," he said in a written statement Tuesday, March 4.

He expressed his concern over the flood disaster that befell the community. Heavy rain with high intensity has caused flash floods and damaged bridges that are access to residents.

"First of all, I express my concern to the people affected by the disaster, both those who are still in refugee camps and those who have returned home," he said.

Diana also appealed to residents not to live on the banks of the river because it would narrow down the river body.

"I see that the river was once wide, now it is narrow because there are so many houses along the river. The water is of course looking for its own path, so I hope it will not be inhabited," he said.

Deputy Minister of Public Works Diana Kusumastuti inspects the evacuation sites of flood-affected communities in Tugu Village, Cisarua, Bogor Regency.

The high intensity of rain in the Puncak area of Bogor on Sunday 2 March resulted in an increase in the water discharge in the upstream area of the Ciliwung River. The river was unable to accommodate water to inundate residents' settlements and damaged several bridges.

He also visited the Hankam Bridge which was broken due to flooding in Cisarua. The Hankam Bridge is located on the district road which is the main access connecting the villages of Lewimalang and Jogjogan.

He also inspected the dry dam or dry dam Ciawi which is downstream in the flood location. The Ciawi Dam is designed to have a capacity volume of 6.05 million cubic meters and an inundation area of 39.40 hectares.

This dam is able to reduce the flood discharge by about 111.75 cubic meters per second entering Jakarta by holding back the flow of water from Mount Gede and Mount Pangrango before arriving at the Katulampa Dam and flowing into the Ciliwung River.
