Qualcomm Introduces X85 5G Modem With Download Speed Up To 12.5 Gbps

Qualcomm officially announced the X85 5G Modem-RF at the MWC 2025 event, Barcelona, which brings a significant increase in network speed with downloads of up to 12.5 Gbps and uploads of 3.7 Gbps.

Compared to its predecessor, the X80 5G Modem, which was launched in 2024 with 10 Gbps download speeds and 3.5 Gbps uploads, this new modem offers faster and more efficient performance, making it Qualcomm's eighth-generation modem solution as well as a fourth-generation 5G AI platform that supports mmWave, Sub-6 GHz, and satellite communications.

Increased AI And Connectivity More Stable

The X85 5G Modem comes with a dedicated AI processor that has 30% increased AI inference speed over previous generations. This has an impact on lower latency, wider coverage, and better power efficiency, thus providing a smoother gaming experience, clearer sound quality in the call app, as well as a more seamless displacement between Wi-Fi and cellular networks.

In addition, this modem presents some of the world's first innovations, including:

- 3CC + 1CC Turbo DSDA (Dual SIM Dual Active) for more stable double connection- Downlink carrier aggregation with 400MHz bandwidth in Sub-6GHz with 1024 QAM- Upload 3.7 Gbps with 4-layer UL carrier aggregration

Not Only For Android Smartphones

Although the X85 5G Modem is targeted for Android smartphones, Qualcomm confirms that this modem also supports 5G Advanced technology that can be applied on various other devices, such as PC, automotive, XR (Extended Reality) devices, and other gadgets.

Seang Chau, VP and GM Android Platform, confirmed that Qualcomm X85 will be a flagship modem for the AI mobile era, particularly in supporting Android developments in the artificial intelligence world.

"This modem brings a speed of 5G breakthroughs, network reliability, and smart connectivity to Android phones, strengthening the position of Android and Qualcomm Technologies in the AI mobile era," Chau said.

Qualcomm also confirmed that the X85 5G Modem received support from various global operators, including T-Mobile, Verizon, China Telecom, China Mobile, China Unicom, KDDI, and NTT DOCOMO.

In addition to increasing speed, users can also expect better network reliability in dense areas, longer battery life, and higher location accuracy with the latest modem from Qualcomm.
