Mayor Of Makassar Frees Garbage Contributions For The Poor

Makassar Mayor, South Sulawesi, Munafri Arifuddin (Appi) will impose free waste contributions for residents in the extreme poor category.

"The 2025 APBD has already been running and we were sworn in after the APBD was enacted. What is certain is that some of the programs will be adjusted and all indirect, but gradually," he said as quoted by ANTARA, Monday, March 3.

Appi said the first and most complained urgent program by the public was the monthly waste contribution which he said was quite burdensome for the community.

Appi promised to start the program with the extreme poor in accordance with the recording and data collection through the use of KWh electricity for residents at 450.

"This free waste flow will run gradually, we will start from the extreme poor household group. We will measure it based on the use of their electricity kWh (kilowatt-hour)," he said.

He stated that the program realization was gradually carried out by adjusting the regional budget set after being included in the Revised APBD.

In addition, the Makassar City Government is also preparing a strategy to balance regional income.

One of them is by increasing waste contribution rates for commercial buildings such as hotels and restaurants so that regional income remains stable.

However, before this program runs, the Makassar City Government must first issue a Mayor Regulation (Perwali) which regulates the implementation mechanism.

"So it is not directly implemented, there must first be a Mayor issued and then determined who is entitled to receive the program. So not everyone accepts, we first calculate how much the budget is," he said.
