French Foreign Minister Reminds War Risks In Europe To Increase
JAKARTA - French Foreign Minister Jean-Noel Barrot warned of the risk of war in Europe reaching a "high" level, stressing "the front line continues to move closer" to the continent.
"The risk of war on the European continent, in the European Union, has never been this high because for nearly 15 years the threat has continued to approach us, the front line continues to move closer," Barrut said in an interview with France Inter, reported by ANTARA from Anadolu, Monday, March 3.
Barrot's remarks come amid increasing geopolitical tensions, especially after an open dispute between US President Donald Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
The exchange of opinions on Friday last week, in which Zelenskyy cast doubt on Trump's approach to negotiating with Russia to end the war in Ukraine, has sparked concerns about the future of US support for Kiev and the trans-Atlantic alliance.
Barrot considered this situation a warning to some European leaders. "What we witnessed today is the rise of some Europeans who previously refused to see the reality," he said.
Despite the growing threat, Barrot affirms France's commitment to ensuring long-term stability in the region.
"We want peace, but strong and lasting peace," he said, stressing that diplomatic efforts were being made to end the three-year war.
