Bahlil's Dissertation Is Canceled, Commission X Of The House Of Representatives Wants Universities Not To Be Repeated
JAKARTA - Deputy Chairman of Commission X DPR RI, Lalu Hadrian Irfani highlighted the recommendations for canceling the dissertation of the Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Bahlil Lahadalia by the Council of Professors of the University of Indonesia (UI). He warned universities that the case should be a lesson and should not be repeated.
Then Ari said, although the cancellation of Bahlil's dissertation was still a recommendation, the official decision was in the hands of the UI Chancellor. Until now, he said, the rector had not made a decision regarding the case that dragged Bahlil's name.
"We are waiting for the official decision of the UI Chancellor. The rector's decision is eagerly awaited by the public, because this is a serious problem in the world of higher education," said Lalu Ari, Monday, March 3.
The chairman of the NTB PKB DPW emphasized that the case that happened to Bahlil must be a lesson for universities and students. The case, according to him, should not be repeated because it will tarnish the good name of the campus and also academic people.
He said academic rules were very clear regarding doctoral education. Both during education, research, guidance, and completing the final duties of doctoral students.
"If the regulation is violated, then the norms of education in universities will be damaged," explained the former member of the NTB DPRD.
Then Ari emphasized that the campus must provide equal and fair treatment to all students. It is not permissible to discriminate the social status of students, and there should be no favoritism and special treatment to students.
"Both ordinary people, officials, rulers, businessmen, officers, all must be treated equally in the academic world," said Lalu Ari.
The legislator from the NTB II electoral district hopes that the UI Chancellor will make a fair decision on the Bahlil case. "UI is facing a tough test that must be addressed wisely. UI's good name is at stake. It's time to carry out educational reforms. The good name of higher education must be cleaned. No more cheating," said Lalu Ari.
To note, the UI Board of Professors considered that there were four violations, so Bahlil had to rewrite his dissertation with new topics according to UI academic standards. Namely, there is malnutrition in data collection, because research data was obtained without the permission of the resource person and its use was not transparent.
There was a violation of academic standards, because Bahlil was accepted and graduated in a short time without meeting the stipulated academic requirements. In addition, Bahlil is considered to have received special treatment in the academic process.
