Commission X DPR RI Urges UI's Attitude On Dissertation Of S3 Bahlil Lahadalia

JAKARTA - Chairman of Commission X DPR RI, Hetifah Sjaifudian, emphasized that the statement by the Council of Professors (DGB) of the University of Indonesia (UI) regarding the dissertation of Bahlil Lahadalia did not reflect UI's overall official stance.

Therefore, he admitted that he was still waiting for UI's attitude as an educational institution, so that there would be certainty in academic matters and not cause polemics in the community.

"I want to convey to the public that UI as an institution needs to immediately announce its official stance. If the UI institution does not immediately take an official decision, the public and the media will continue to discredit Bahlil Lahadalia as a student, even harming UI itself," Hetifah said in his statement, Sunday, March 2.

This is also in line with the opinion he conveyed at the General Hearing Meeting (RDPU) with the Indonesian State University Chancellor Council (MRPTNI) on February 26, which was also attended by the UI Chancellor.

He also emphasized the importance of transparency, accountability, and professionalism in dealing with academic issues. The goal is to maintain the image of higher education.

"We urge UI to make fair and objective academic principles, not because of certain political pressures," he added.

Hetifah also invited all parties to respect UI's decision and wait for the official settlement process.

"I emphasize that every student, including Bahlil Lahadalia, has the right to provide resolution to this problem through existing mechanisms. It cannot be separated from the efforts of the student concerned in completing her studies, I provide moral support, that even though she is an official and party leader, she will cooperate in resolving this issue and continue to make a positive contribution to the nation," said Hetifah.

For information, the Council of Professors of the University of Indonesia (DGB UI) recommended the Chancellor of UI to cancel the final task or dissertation of the students of the UI Stratejik and Global Study School (SKSG), Bahlil Lahadalia.

The recommendation for the cancellation is stated in one of the points in the document of the Risalah of the Plenary Meeting of the UI DGB.
