Bandarlampung City Government Normalizes Rivers, 4 Houses Will Demolish

LAMPUNG - Bandarlampung City Government (Pemkot) said it would knock down four houses standing on rivers in the Sukamaju area, Teluk Betung Timur District.

"The municipal government will dismantle four houses that stand on the river, the owner of the house is also willing and has coordinated with me," said Bandarlampung Mayor Eva Dwiana in Bandarlampung, Sunday, February 2, as reported by Antara.

Di mengatakan, perobohan rumah warga di atas sungai merupakan langkah yang harus dibilang dalam upaya menormalisasi sungai agar banjir besar di daerah ini tidak terjadi lagi.

"In addition to residents' houses that will be torn down, we will also widen the filter to accommodate more water discharge," he said.

He explained that the drainage or filter in the Sukamaju area would be widened 30 centimeters from its original state, so that it could accommodate more water when it rains.

"In addition, for the recovery after the disaster, assistance in the form of rice and other basic necessities to residents of Teluk Betung Timur District who were affected by the floods has been distributed," he said.

Meanwhile, Assistant I of Bandarlampung City, Sukarma Wijaya, said that related to the problem of settlements along the river, which was one of the causes of flooding, this was indeed a dilemma for the government.

"On the one hand, we see that our brothers and sisters who live along the river are our people as well, who initially lived in the neighborhood," he said.

He also said that in the future the Bandarlampung City Government would tighten supervision by socializing through the sub-district and village heads, especially in thebank areas, that there were rules that were not allowed to build buildings along the river lines.

"Later they will give strict rules to residents that there is a ban on building buildings along the river boundaries in accordance with existing regulations, so we hope that the public will be aware of this," he said.

It is known that a number of areas in Bandarlampung City were affected by flooding due to the high intensity of rain, including in the East Betung Bay area, on (27 February) which was severely affected.
