Syrian Prime Ramadan Fasting Without Tirani Assad, Eating At Restaurants During The Day Is Allowed
The call was made to places to eat and coffee shops in Syria to close on Saturday, March 1, 2025, welcoming the inaugural moment of fasting the holy month of Ramadan without the interference of Bashar Al-Assad's tyranny.
The request was announced by the Syrian Ministry of Religious Waqf before the month of Ramadan for all restaurants, coffee shops, and street food stalls to be closed during the day.
People are also prohibited from eating or drinking in public places if they violate the threat of imprisonment.
However, so far there has been no official order from the Syrian Government regarding the ban.
According to APP journalists visiting Damascus, the Syrian capital on Saturday, March 1, 2025, several coffee shops remained open but their windows were closed so that people outside could not see.
First Ramadan Without Tirani Assad
A number of rebel militant groups led by Islamist Hayat Tahrir Al-Sham or HTS have ousted President Bashar Assad's secular government in early December 2024. The Assad family dynasty ruled Syria for 54 years eventually collapsed.
Since then, the Syrian government under the leader of HTS, Ahmad Al-Sharaa. Concerns arise, the country will turn into Daesh, formerly called ISIS. However, Al-Sharaa has promised to respect the religious minority in Syria.
Under the Assad administration against Ramadan 2025, Muslims fast as in general until sunset. Unlike the Assad era, people are also allowed to eat in public, such as in restaurants.
This year's Ramadan comes with a new taste. This is Ramadan victory and release," said Syrian interim Minister of Religion Hussam Hajj-Hussein in a statement broadcast on television.
Most countries around the world, including Saudi Arabia, Indonesia and Kuwait, began to worship Ramadan on Saturday, March 1, 2025. Meanwhile, several other countries such as Malaysia and Japan, as well as several Shia Muslims, began fasting on Sunday, March 2, 2025.
