Support MSME Empowerment, Pupuk Indonesia Brings Local Products To The World Stage
PT Pupuk Indonesia (Persero) together with all its subsidiaries are committed to supporting the government program and the Ministry of SOEs in developing the national Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs). One clear evidence of this commitment is the success of Rumah Kain, a typical fabric producer of Palembang, which has successfully upgraded to class through the mentoring program from Pupuk Indonesia Group.
This support is in line with Pupuk Indonesia's vision of carrying out its role as a BUMN that not only focuses on the food sector, but also has a social responsibility in empowering MSMEs. President Director of Pupuk Indonesia Rahmad Pribadi said that as part of a State-Owned Enterprise (BUMN), the company has a social responsibility to take part in developing the national MSME sector. He believes that the development of the MSME sector will ultimately contribute to national economic growth.
"Pupuk Indonesia believes that our responsibility is not only to fertilize the earth, but also to foster the spirit of entrepreneurship of the nation. We are committed to optimizing the role of BUMN to empower MSMEs to be able to develop potential and create wider business opportunities. Through the assistance of MSMEs, we want local cultural heritage, such as Palembang songket, to be known more broadly and have a positive impact on Indonesia's economy and culture," said Rahmad Pribadi while visiting the Pusri office in Palembang on Wednesday, (13/2/2025).
Rumah Kain was founded in 2011 by Ramaini, a craftsman who falls in love with the beauty of traditional fabrics typical of Palembang such as Songket and Jumputan. However, at the beginning of its establishment, Ramaini had to face the difficulty of getting access to capital so that the production process carried out still came from partner loans.
In 2013, Rumah Kain finally joined the Micro and Small Business Funding (PUMK) program from PT Pupuk Sriwidjaja Palembang, a subsidiary of Pupuk Indonesia. Through this assistance, Rumah Kain has wider access to its business development. Not only capital, PUMK Pusri provides business assistance, marketing strategy training, to business legality so as to make Rumah Kain more prepared to face competition.
Thanks to Ramaini's persistence and support from the PUMK Pusri program, Rumah Kain managed to develop its business significantly. This success can be seen from sales turnover which continues to increase until 2024 its value touched hundreds of millions. Training on marketing strategies and access to wider capital also made Rumah Kain able to improve the quality of its products and obtain SNI certification for Songket products. The peak of the success of the Fabric House occurred when this MSME managed to become the main supplier in the international fashion event, Jakarta Fashion Week (JFW) 2025.
Rahmad added that Rumah Kain is one of many MSMEs that participate in the Pupuk Indonesia fostered program and its subsidiaries. He hopes that in the future, more and more MSMEs will benefit from the coaching program carried out by Pupuk Indonesia and other SOEs.
"The House of Fabric's journey shows how the synergy between MSMEs and state-owned companies is able to encourage sustainable business growth. With the assistance program that continues to be perfected and expanded, we hope that more MSMEs will develop and provide benefits for the local economy," said Rahmad.
Meanwhile, President Director of Pusri Daconi Khotob said the company will try to build an ecosystem that allows MSMEs to develop and continue to improve the quality of production. "As part of the Pupuk Indonesia Group, we continue to assist MSMEs to be more empowered and ready to face a wider industry," said Daconi.
Apart from the Fabric House, other MSMEs in the wastra and fashion sector are also growing rapidly thanks to the support of Pupuk Indonesia. One of them is Nadina Salim who succeeded in adapting Palembang songket cloth into modern footwear and fashion designs, with SNI certification and existence at various international exhibitions such as the Hongkong Fashion in Style 2024 and Trade Expo 2023. KC Haris Jaya, which is engaged in weaving, is now the main supplier to Pusri and appears in the China-ASEAN Expo and Tong-Tong Festival in the Netherlands.
Not only in the fashion industry, but Pupuk Indonesia's culinary MSMEs also show significant growth. Pempek Rizky successfully expanded his market to Singapore with modern packaging innovations and halal certification and SNI. Jasmine Aren, which is engaged in palm sugar production, also utilizes digital technology and strict certification to supply its products to large supermarkets and e-commerce platforms.
In the handicraft sector, Sesera Kumpe Craft processes hyacinth into high selling products.
