TikTok Will Invest IDR 145.9 Trillion In Thailand
JAKARTA TikTok, a subsidiary of ByteDance, said it would invest $8.8 billion for the construction of a data center in Thailand for five years.
This plan was conveyed by TikTok's Vice President of Public Policy Helena Lersch while attending an event in Bangkok and meeting with Thai Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra.
TikTok will focus on strengthening Thai technology infrastructure in the next five years, particularly the establishment of data hosting centers.
This development will help the video distribution platform in managing user data in Thailand and Southeast Asia.
This large investment was also made to place Thailand as a regional technology center.
Unfortunately, it is still unclear whether this investment plan is in accordance with what was revealed by Thailand's investment council in January.
The council had stated that TikTok had entered into an agreement worth 3.8 billion (Rp 63 trillion) with Thailand.
In addition to focusing on the construction of data centers, Lersch and Paetongtarn also discussed the importance of increasing media literacy.
