50 Gram Fake Gold Seller Couple In Kapuas Threatened With 5 Years In Prison

KAPUAS - A married couple (couple) with the initials HI and SH, a resident of Palabau Baru, Kapuas Murung District, Kapuas Regency, Central Kalimantan, who was arrested for selling counterfeit gold in danger of five years in prison.

Kapuas Police Chief AKBP Gede Eka Yudharma said the two were arrested on Thursday (27/2/2025) at around 12.00 WITA in East Kalimantan (Kaltim), after long being fugitives in criminal acts of fraud by selling counterfeit gold.

The married couple is subject to Article 378 of the Criminal Code concerning criminal acts of fraud with a penalty of more than five years in prison.

"The perpetrators who have been named as suspects were secured in two different places, namely on Jalan poros Samarinda-Balikpapan, East Kalimantan and his wife while in the courtyard of the mosque in Kutai Regency, East Kalimantan," he said as quoted by ANTARA, March 1.

The fraud occurred on Sunday (5/11/2024), at around 10:00 WIB at the Sutra Ali Pasar Palakau gold shop owned by the two couples.

The victim, with the initials IN, came to the shop owned by the two couples to buy 99 gold weighing 50 grams at a price of Rp. 810 thousand per gram, with the amount of money paid of around Rp. 40.5 million.

After time, victim IN received information that the two couples were reportedly involved in a gold scam. Hearing this, the victim returned home to take the gold he bought to be taken to the perpetrator's shop.

After arriving at the perpetrator's shop, the gold shop was closed.

The victim also took the initiative to take him to a gold shop in Kuala Kapuas City to confirm the authenticity of his gold. However, the shop said that his gold was fake or made of polished copper.

"For this incident, the victim suffered a loss of Rp. 40.5 million and then the victim came to the Kapuas Murung Police, to report the incident for further processing," said Gede.
