President Zelenskyy Cornered In White House, Russia Attacks Ukrainian Medical Facilities
JAKARTA - Russian drones attacked medical facilities and other targets on Friday evening local time in Ukraine's second-largest city, Kharkiv. Russian attacks injured five people, local officials said.
Regional Governor By Syniehubov said eight Russian drones had attacked civilian areas in three central districts, often targeted by Russian attacks in the war that had been going on for the past three years.
Syniehubov said five people were injured, while Mayor Ihor Terekhov said seven people were injured.
In addition, more than 50 people were evacuated from medical facilities and emergency crews managed to control the fire triggered by the attack.
Reported by Reuters on Saturday, March 1, dozens of buildings were reported to be damaged, with windows broken in apartment buildings, car dealers and hypermarkets.
At the Odesa port in the Black Sea, which is also often targeted by Russia in southern Ukraine, a drone strike sparked fires in private homes and places of business, killing one person and injuring another.
While in separate places, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy argued hotly with US President Donald Trump including US Vice President JD Vance.
Zelenskyy left the White House without signing a mineral deal or a joint press conference originally scheduled.
A tense meeting in the Oval room of the White House exploded when JD Vance stressed the need for diplomacy to resolve the biggest conflict in Europe since the Second World War. Zelenskyy, folding his hands, replied that Putin could not be trusted and noted that Vance had never visited Ukraine.
What kind of diplomacy are you talking about, JD? Zelenskyy asked after telling about the diplomatic attempt that failed with Russia.
"I'm talking about the type of diplomacy that will end the destruction of your country," Vance replied.
Zelenskyy publicly challenged Trump for his gentler approach to Putin, and urged him not to compromise with a murderer."
Trump, after the meeting, quickly uploaded a post on Truth Social accusing Zelenskiy of disrespecting the United States.
"I have decided that President Zelenskyy is not ready for Peace if America is involved," he wrote, using an alternative spelling for the leader's name. He can come back when he is ready for Peace
