King Charles III And Queen Camilla Help Pack Dates And Biryani For Iftar

JAKARTA - King of England Charles III and Queen Camilla join in packaging dates and box biryani to share during breaking the fast in Ramadan 1446 Hijriyah or 2025 during a visit to the Indian restaurant Darjeeling Express in London on Wednesday.

King Charles III and Queen Camilla met Muslim women's communities with various backgrounds, such as sports, art, and businesses discussing plans for activities in the Holy Month of Ramadan this year.

"The King and Queen helped pack dates to be sent to the Iftaar (opening fast) to the hospital during the holy month," wrote the Royal Family website as quoted on February 28.

Not only packing dates, the King and Queen then joined the kitchen team, all of whom were women who were packing Biryani Rice.

The king and Queen also directly packaged the food that would be given to families supported by Doorstep, part of the commitment of the Darerjeeling Express to distribute food during Ramadan.

"His Majesty joins a restaurant kitchen team of all women to pack biryani into boxes. These boxes will be given to families supported by Doorstep, as part of the Darerjeeling Express's commitment to cook for charity purposes every Ramadan," Royal Family uploaded on Instagram.

Doorstep itself is a charity that provides goods and services for members of the Muslim community who live in temporary accommodation.

Opened in Soho in 2017 by the owner of a British restaurant born in India, Asma Khan, Darjeeling Express is now based in Kingly Court, London. The restaurant is run by a team of all women.

During Ramadan, Asma donated all the proceeds from restaurant sales to charity and sent food packages to the hospital as part of zakat fitrah.

"Today the King and Queen joined us for a pre-Ramadan meeting, where they packed dates and biryani," Asma uploaded on her Instagram account.

Royal Family says the King and Queen have long shown support for various religions in Britain and across the Commonwealth, meeting with leaders of all religions, visiting many holy sites and places of worship around the world, working for years to encourage inter-im dialogue and support greater understanding between religions.
