Avoid Drinking Excessive Coffee During The Month Of Fasting, This Is The Impact
JAKARTA - Drinking excessive coffee during Ramadan can have various negative impacts on the body. One of the main effects is the increasing production of stomach acid which can cause the stomach to feel uncomfortable, bloating, or even stomach pain.
In addition, the caffeine contained in coffee has a diuretic nature, which can increase the frequency of urinating and risk causing dehydration during fasting.
Another impact that needs to be considered is sleep disorders and caffeine dependence, which can affect stamina and energy balance throughout the day.
The Indonesian Specialty Coffee Association (ACTION/SCAI) urges the public to consume coffee more wisely during fasting. The Secretary General of ACTION, Gusti Laksamana, explained that the amount of caffeine that enters the body needs to be considered because the higher the level of caffeine, the greater the impact on health.
"Everyone has a different tolerance for caffeine. Therefore, it is important to understand consumption limits so that unwanted side effects can be minimized," said Gusti as quoted by ANTARA.
One of the effects of excessive caffeine consumption is increasing gut permeability, which can make food or other substances easier to enter and trigger digestive disorders. This condition can cause the stomach to feel summons or even trigger refluxes of stomach acid.

"The more caffeine you consume, the higher the risk of an increase in stomach acid. Therefore, the amount of consumption must be considered properly," he added.
Gusti also advised the public to understand the difference in caffeine content in various types of coffee. For example, Robusta coffee has a caffeine level that is three times higher than Arabica. Therefore, if a person usually consumes three cups of Arabica coffee in a day, then if you switch to Robusta it is enough for just one cup to not overdo it.
In addition, excessive caffeine consumption can also cause addiction. Gusti explained that coffee has an addictive effect that can make it difficult for a person to sleep and experience an energy surge that lasts about six hours after consumption.
To avoid this negative impact, he suggested that coffee consumption during fasting is done wisely, for example two hours after breaking the fast or before dawn. This consumption time is considered optimal to support stamina without disturbing the body's metabolism during fasting.
"The best time to drink coffee is actually in the morning so that energy can be used optimally. However, when fasting, the best choice is before dawn so that the effects of caffeine stimulant can help maintain energy longer," concluded Gusti.
