Prospective Regent Of Tasikmalaya Winners Of The Regional Head Elections Disqualified By The Constitutional Court, PKB-PDIP Looking For A Replacement

JAKARTA - Deputy General Chairperson (Waketum) of the National Awakening Party (PKB) Jazilul Fawaid said his party and the PDI-P (PDIP) were looking for a replacement for the candidate for Regent of Tasikmalaya Ade Sugianto.

The search for this replacement candidate was carried out because Ade Sugianto was disqualified from the 2024 Pilkada contestation by the Constitutional Court (MK) because he was proven to have served for two terms.

Ade Sugianto together with the candidate for Deputy Regent of Tasikmalaya Iip Miftahul Salurz are the pair with the most votes in the 2024 Pilkada carried by PKB and PDIP.

"It is being coordinated at the technical level of the DPC (branch leadership board), the party's DPW (regional leadership board) to carry out the search for candidate pairs or candidate pairs," said Jazilul at the PKB DPP Office, Central Jakarta, Thursday, February 27.

Jazilul hopes that the PKB and PDIP party administrators in Tasikmalaya can immediately make a decision to determine the replacement candidate pair before the re-voting is held.

"We also hope that the candidate pairs that will be raised will remain pairs of candidates. So this victory, which yesterday's victory remains a victory in the future," said Jazilul.

On Monday, February 24, the Constitutional Court partially granted the request for Case Number 132/PHPU.BUP-XXIII/2025 Dispute on General Election Results (PHPU) of the Regent and Deputy Regent of Tasikmalaya 2024. The application granted in this case relates to the disqualification of Candidates for Regent Number 3, Ade Sugianto.

"Declares the disqualification of H Ade Sugianto as a Candidate for the Regent of Tasikmalaya in the General Election of the Regent and Deputy Regent of Tasikmalaya in 2024," said Chief Justice of the Constitutional Court Suhartoyo when reading the verdict.

The petitioners in this case are the Candidate Pair for Regent and Deputy Regent of Tasikmalaya Number Urut 2, Cecep Nurul Yakin and Asep Sopari Al-Ayubi.

Although Ade was disqualified, his deputy, Iip Miftahul Saryaz is still allowed to contest the 2024 Tasikmalaya Regent and Deputy Regent Election. For this reason, the Court ordered political parties or coalitions of political parties that propose or support them to propose a replacement for Ade.

In addition, the Court also ordered the Tasikmalaya KPU to re-vote (PSU) without including Ade Sugianto. PSU must be carried out within 60 days of the decision being read out.

KPU Tasikmalaya was also ordered to base the PSU on the Permanent Voter List, Transfer Voter List, and Additional Voter List with the same vote on November 27, 2024.

This Cabup Ade Sugianto disqualification was decided by the Constitutional Court regarding the periodization of his position. Ade is known to have served as the Regent of Tasikmalaya for the 2018-2021 and 2021-2024 periods.

The Constitutional Panel of Judges calculated Ade Sugianto's term of office in his first period of 2 years 6 months 18 days. Because more than 2.5 years or 2 years 6 months, the term of office is calculated as one period and becomes two terms with his leadership period in 2021-2024.

Meanwhile, the General Elections Commission (KPU) stipulates that regional head candidates are prohibited from re-nominating in the same area after serving two terms.
