UNRWA Chief Says West Bank Experiencing War Spices In The Worrying Gaza Strip

JAKARTA - UNRWA Commissioner General Philippe Lazzarini said on Wednesday, the West Bank region of Palestine experienced an alarming overflow of war in Gaza.

In a tweet on social media X Lazzarini wrote, more than 50 people, including children, were reported to have died since Israel's operation began 5 weeks ago.

The head of UNRWA warned that the destruction of public infrastructure, destruction of roads and restrictions on access are common.

"People's lives have changed drastically, bringing back trauma and loss. About 40,000 people have been forced to flee their homes, especially in refugee camps in the north," he said.

He further said fear, uncertainty and sadness once again occurred, suggesting the affected camps had been destroyed.

"More than 5,000 children who usually attend UNRWA schools have lost their education, some of whom have lost access for more than 10 weeks," he said, adding patients were unable to access health services, and families were cut off from water, electricity and other basic services.

Lazzarini said more and more people were dependent on humanitarian aid as aid agencies were overwhelmed and severely resource-deficient.

"Our UNRWA team tracks displaced people and continues to provide them with food, health care, and basic necessities that are urgently needed to keep them warm," he explained.

He added that the West Bank was at war, noting "usual Palestinians are the first and suffer the most. This must end."
