Tarakan Police Attack, National Police Chief: Pangdam-Kapolda Already Handling

National Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo confirmed that the incident at the Tarakan Police Headquarters, North Kalimantan (Kaltara) on Saturday night had been handled, both by the Regional Police Chief Inspector General Hary Sudwijanto and Pangdam VI/Mulawarman Major General TNI Rudy Rachmat Nugraha.

He emphasized that the incident would not interfere with the synergy and solidity between the TNI and Polri. The statement was made by the National Police Chief after providing briefing materials to regional heads in the Tidar Valley, Military Academy Complex (Akmil), on Wednesday night.

"I think the Pangdam and Kapolda have taken the necessary steps. Of course, the TNI and Polri remain solid, we will continue to work together to protect and guard this country," said General Listyo Sigit Prabowo.

The National Police Chief added that good relations between the two institutions must be maintained for the benefit of the nation. Moreover, he said, so far the TNI-Polri have worked well together in the field, especially in various national programs, such as overseeing government policies in the food security sector.

"We must continue to improve this synergy and solidity, and I am sure that each commander understands the importance of this," he added.

Previously, TNI Major General Rudy Rachmat Nugraha together with Inspector General Hary Sudwijanto, and the Forkopimda ranks had held a meeting to resolve the incident of the Tarakan Police attack professionally and fairly.

"The two institutions affirm their commitment to maintaining the synergy between the TNI and Polri in maintaining security and order in the North Kalimantan region," said Rudy Rachmat Nugraha in Tarakan, Tuesday (25/2/2025).

Rudy explained that this misunderstanding incident began with the incident on Saturday (22/2/2025) when there was a beating against a member of Battalion 614/RJP by about five Tarakan Police personnel.

From the results of the initial mediation between members of the Tarakan Police and members of Battalion 614/RJP, it was agreed that members of the Tarakan Police involved would provide treatment costs of Rp 10 million to the victims. However, this promise has not been realized.

On Monday (24/2) at around 23.30 WITA, about 20 members of Battalion 614/RJP came to the Tarakan Police Headquarters with the intention of looking for five members of the Resort Police who were suspected of being involved in the beating incident.

In the spontaneity action in the form of the attack on the Tarakan Police, there was a stone throwing which resulted in damage to the glass and the guard post gate and several glass.
