Hamas Reportedly Ready To Continue Fighting In Gaza Strip

JAKARTA - The Palestinian struggle movement,Hamas, is reportedly preparing to resume fighting in the Gaza Strip due to problems in ceasefire negotiations with Israel, according to a newspaper The Wall Street Journal (WSJ) report.

The WSJ, which quoted a number of officials from Arab countries anonymously, revealed that Hamas is re-scheduling its military power for the possible resumption of fighting in Gaza.

In addition, the armed wing of the organization has appointed a new commander and is starting to draw up plans for a possible deployment of its troops, the officials said.

Meanwhile, Israeli forces are reportedly trying to take control of the Netzarim Corridor, which divides Gaza into north and south.

As part of combat preparations, Hamas is preparing a special team to track Israeli spies found in Gaza.

As reported by ANTARA from Sputnik-OANA, Wednesday, February 26, the officials said Hamas had begun restoring tunnels in Gaza and teaching its new members how to use weapons in guerrilla warfare against Israeli armed forces.

Israel received six hostages from Hamas on Saturday (22/2) but declined to release more than 600 Palestinian prisoners scheduled to be exchanged.

Israeli authority leader Benjamin Netanyahu said he would "postpone" the release of Palestinian prisoners until Hamas guarantees the release of the next Israeli hostages "without going through an embarrassing ceremony".

The ceasefire has been in effect in the Gaza Strip since January 19 as part of an agreement between Israel and the Palestinian Hamas movement to release Israeli hostages in exchange for the release of Palestinian prisoners.

The agreement guarantees are Qatar, Egypt and the United States, which have established a coordination center in Cairo.

This deal is the second ceasefire during the conflict. The first phase was completed in November 2023 and lasted only six days.
