Dozens Of Children Caught Selling Themselves At Hotels In The Tebet Area, Police Confiscated Condoms And Cash

JAKARTA - The Directorate of General Criminal Investigation of Polda Metro Jaya uncovered the practice of online child prostitution at a hotel in Tebet, South Jakarta. Dozens of people were also arrested in this case.

"Polda Metro Jaya has secured several underage commercial sex workers, jockeys as well as several people who have been caught red-handed, are suspected of being or have committed obscene acts with the victim as a minor," said Head of Public Relations of Polda Metro Jaya, Kombes Yusri Yunus in a written release quoted from Between, Thursday, 23 April.

The raid carried out by officers took place on Wednesday, April 21 at around 23.00 WIB.

The officers then took a number of people who were suspected of being pimps and users of the prostitutes to Polda Metro Jaya for questioning.

"The modus operandi is to offer child prostitutes by using social media applications," said Yusri

During the operation the police arrested 15 people. Most of them were children who were suspected of being employed as prostitutes. The police also confiscated a number of evidence, such as contraceptives, cash, cell phones and laptops.

If found guilty, the perpetrators who are involved in the practice of prostitution are threatened with being caught by the Republic of Indonesia Law No. 23 of 2002 concerning Child Protection and or article 2 paragraph (1) of the Republic of Indonesia Law No. 21 of 2007 concerning the Eradication of the Crime of Trafficking in Persons and / or Article 27 paragraph (1) in conjunction with Article 45 of Law of the Republic of Indonesia No. 19 of 2016 concerning ITE and / or Article 296 of the Criminal Code and or Article 506 of the Criminal Code
