Menkomdigi Meutya Challenges Regional Heads To Prioritize Digital Transformation

JAKARTA - The Minister of Communication and Digital Affairs (Menkomdigi), Meutya Hafid, challenges all regional heads not only to be followers of the current, but to be pioneers in digital transformation in their respective regions.

In accordance with President Prabowo Subianto's direction, Meutya said that digital transformation is not just an option, but has become a necessity in today's digital era.

He also reminded that without close coordination between the center and the regions, especially in the 3T region (lagging behind, leading, outermost), digitalization will run limp.

The Minister of Trade also opened space for regional heads to convey challenges and input in order to create more relevant policies.

"Don't hesitate to criticize, provide input, and discuss. We want this digital transformation to really have an impact," said Meutya in her official broadcast quoted Wednesday, February 26.

Meutya emphasized that digital transformation is the path to national sovereignty. This digitization is expected to help the government achieve its economic growth target by an average of 8 percent per year.

"We must not only be technology consumers, but must be sovereign in creating and controlling our own digital ecosystem," said the Minister of Trade.

In order for digital transformation to be not just a slogan, Meutya also appealed to regional heads to also understand various regulations that become the foundation of national digitization.

The regulation is PP No. 46/2021 concerning Posts, Telecommunications, and Broadcasting, Law no. 27/2022 concerning Personal Data Protection, Permenkominfo No. 9/2023 concerning Artificial Intelligence, Presidential Decree No. 21/2024 concerning Online Gambling Control, Law No. 1/2024 on Electronic Information and Transactions
