Syria Asks Israel To Pull Troops From Its Territory

JAKARTA - Syria condemned Israel's attack on its territory and called for Israel to withdraw.

This was conveyed in a closing statement of the national dialogue summit organized by the new Syrian Islamic rulers to outline the country's political roadmap, reported by Reuters, Tuesday, February 25.

Israel moved its troops to the UN-supervised demilitarized zone in Syria after rebels led by Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS), a former Al Qaeda affiliate, toppled former President Bashar al-Assad in December.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said on Sunday Israel would not tolerate the presence of HTS in southern Syria, or other powers affiliated with the country's new rulers, and demanded demilitarization of the region.
