Indonesian Submarine Secrets: From KRI Cakra To Alugoro
YOGYAKARTA - The topic of submarines is becoming a public discussion after the KRI Nanggala-402 lost contact in Bali waters on Wednesday, April 21, 2021. The German-made submarine is one of the Navy's mainstay defense equipment.
It is known that Indonesia only has 5 submarines, namely KRI Cakra 401, KRI Nanggala 402, KRI Nagapasa 403, KRI Ardadedali 404, and KRI Alugoro 405. So, what are the secrets of the five Indonesian submarines?

You could say, KRI Cakra is the sister submarine of KRI Nanggala. KRI Cakra-401 is the first Cakra type submarine, while KRI Nanggala is the second.
The KRI Cakra has a German HDW-made 209/1300-type submarine which has a large population worldwide.
KRI Cakra has an electric diesel engine, 4 diesel, 1 shaft producing 4,600 shp. Able to propel ships up to speeds of 21.5 knots, manned by 34 sailors. KRI Cakra-401 including the Indonesian Navy battering fleet.
2. Submarine KRI Nanggala-402
Because it is a sister submarine of KRI Cakra, KRI Nanggala-402 also has the same weight, namely 1.395 tons with dimensions of 59.5 meters long, 6.3 meters wide, 5.5 meters high.
KRI Nanggala-402 is claimed to be able to dive for 3 months with a maximum depth of 250 below sea level. KRI Nanggala is equipped with weapons in the form of 14 torpedoes measuring 21 inches in 8 tubes, which have a shooting range of 2 miles and a sonar sensor type CSU-32 suite.
3. Submarine KRI Nagapasa-403
KRI Nagapasa-403 is the 209/1400 class submarine the first of three similar submarines built in South Korea and Indonesia. This ship is 61.3 meters long and can travel at speeds of 21 knots underwater.
This submarine is capable of sailing for more than 50 days and can carry a crew of 40. KRI Nagapasa is also equipped with torpedoes and facilities for eight launch tubes.
4. Submarine KRI Ardadeli
KRI Ardadeli was also made in South Korea, to be precise at Daewoo Shipbuilding and Marine Engineering Co., Ltd (DSME).
To support its function, KRI Ardadeli is equipped with a torpedo capable of launching 533 millimeter torpedoes and surface anti-ship missiles.
The length of the KRI Ardadeli submarine is 61.3 meters, a diameter of 6.2 meters, and a draft of 5.7 meters. KRI Ardadeli can carry 40 crew.
5. KRI Alugoro-405
The last one is Indonesia's newest submarine. This ship was inaugurated by Minister of Defense Prabowo Subianto on March 17, 2021.
KRI Alugoro is claimed to have the latest and most advanced technology, which can overcome warfare under sea level.
Not only that, the KRI Alugoro has specifications for the type of "Diesel Electric Submarine U209 / 1400" (KSDE U209 Chang Bogo Class), and the overall length reaches 61.3 meters with a maximum speed of 21 knots when underwater.
Another secret of the Indonesian submarine KRI Alugoro is that it can explore the oceans for up to 50 days and is designed with "life time" or the age of up to 30 years, and is able to carry 40 crews.
