Joint Officers Intercept 5 Illegal Indonesian Migrant Workers Returning From Malaysia In Karimun

RIAU - Riau's Indonesian Migrant Workers Protection Service Center (BP3MI) secured 5 illegal Indonesian migrant workers (PMI) who were about to return from Malaysia to Batam. They were arrested in Karimun, Riau on Monday.

The five illegal migrant workers were arrested after being caught in a joint operation from Karimun Customs and Excise, the TNI's Strategic Intelligence Agency (BAIS), and BIN Karimun.

"After they got into the car, their car was blocked and secured by the operating team," said the report by BP3MI Riau received in Jakarta, Tuesday, February 25.

The security process for these five illegal migrant workers was originally a development of reports that went to officers regarding the alleged shipment of drugs from Malaysia to Karimun.

Officers who conducted an in-depth investigation related to the report then suspected a car that, after the action was carried out, found that there were 5 illegal migrant workers who had just returned from Malaysia and 3 people who had picked them up.

"3 people who were arrested were suspected of being witnesses to pick up from the 5 migrant workers," continued the report by BP3MI Riau.

Based on the information gathered by officers, the five plan to return from Malaysia to Batam. However, transit first in Karimun to then take the land route by car.

The five of them were from Kukup, Malaysia using a boat for three hours on the way to Pongkar Beach, Karimun. On the way to board the ship via the 'rat route', the five Indonesian migrant workers were hidden behind the blanket and asked to lower their bodies and heads so they could not be seen from a distance.

These five non-procedural Indonesian migrant workers departed from Kukup Malaysia to Batam, but they were sent to Karimun and are scheduled to continue to Batam, "wrote the report.

To be able to return to the hallama village through this illegal route, they were asked to pay some money to the brokers.

"From the five Indonesian migrant workers, information was obtained that they had paid money in the amount of 1300 RM, 1500 RM, 2400 RM and 3700 RM," wrote the report by BP3MI Riau.

Currently, BP3MI Riau is still investigating the five illegal migrant workers and three witness pick-up. In order to dig further information regarding the repatriation process through this illegal route, they were placed at the Karimun Indonesian Migrant Workers Protection Service Post (P4MI) Friendly House.

"Officers are coordinating with the Karimun Police Satreskrim and the Karimun Police Satpolairud for further legal action," said the Riau BP3MI report.
